One of my goals for this year is to procure my basic wardrobe wish list’s clothing items. I want it to be easier for me to find an outfit to wear when I wake up in the morning to go to work. I want it to be easy when I have to leave the house with a last minute’s notice, but I still want to look chic and put together.
In order to do this, I would have to get rid of the items in my closet that don’t serve me anymore. I thought I’d share with you my process for decluttering my wardrobe.
- Figure out what is your style and your main color palette. This is an incredibly important step. If you don’t know what your go to outfits are, you’ll keep pieces that you never wear. You may keep them because it was a gift or you bought it when it was on trend. If you know what kind of outfits you reach for, it’s plenty easier to let go of what you never wear. Another helpful resource to find out your style is here.
- Take out all your clothes from your wardrobe. I find it much easier to let go items when I’ve taken it out from my closet. If I try to declutter from my closet, I notice that I keep more pieces.
- Categorize to donate, recycle, keep, and maybe donate. The donation items are pieces that are still wearable, but you know that you’ll never wear. Recycle are pieces that are stained, ripped, or have holes. Keep category are clothes that you’ve worn within the last 3 months and know you’ll wear within the next 3 months. Maybe donate category are clothes that you think you’ll wear within the next 3 months, but have not worn them within the last 3 months.
- Return “keep” items and store “maybe donate” items separately. I like to place my maybe donate items away from the rest of my clothes, but still visible. That way if I do grab a piece and wear it, I’ll simply place it with the rest of my wardrobe, but if I never grab it, it’ll remain in the same place. That way I know it’s time to donate.
Life Update
I’ve been so incredibly busy with school at the moment that I’m spending at at least 3 hours each day to study. Aside from that, I finally have some real life friends that I’ve been spending time with. Because of this, I’ve found myself less and less on my blog. I still love to blog, but it’s not my priority at the moment. So, I’ll probably be posting twice a month. I’ll still post to my ability the best quality that I can produce.
I’ve also found a sparked interest in filming and maybe will come up with more videos to post. Awhile back I wanted to make a youtube channel, but I wanted it to be perfect. I still want it to be perfect, but I’m not going to let that stop me from creating. I’d love for all of you to still continue this journey with me especially because I’m not stopping! Simply slowing down. Hopefully back in the summer, it’ll pick up again.
