Battling Adult Acne | Journey to curing it

battlingadultacne

I’ve had acne growing up in my teenage years. I was very self conscious about the way I looked. After I turned 20, my skin cleared up, and I had forgotten that feeling of self consciousness and feeling like I couldn’t show my face in public. But, late last year blemishes started to return, and they haven’t gone away. I’m currently 24, and about to be 25 in a month. I’d say that they have come in full force. I tried everything to get rid of them, drank more water, eliminated eating greasy foods, cleaned my pillow case and makeup brushes every week, bought medical grade skin care, but to no avail my acne worsened.

Acne hasn’t been the only problem I’ve been experiencing. I’ve been ignoring my body, and the acne is my body’s way to yell at me to pay attention. Aside from acne, I’ve been experiencing

  • brain fog
  • depression
  • irritability
  • reduced sex drive
  • frequent urination
  • increased thirst
  • swollen lymph nodes
  • psoriasis
  • itchy skin
  • yeast infections

And, you know what these all have in common? They are symptoms of hormonal imbalances. So, my goal is to figure out what is making my body out of whack!

So, my future posts will be my trial and error to see what works and what doesn’t work to heal my body.  I’ll do my research and share what I learn with all of you!

I’d thought it’d be best to show you my “before”.

  1. Hey beauty, I am not a doctor, but it sounds to me like you might have PCOS. (Not sure if you have been checked or not) I struggled with a lot of the same issues you are struggling with. (including adult acne which got worse around my period and when I ovulate) The pill helped tremendously (until I had to come off of it for other health reasons) so did cutting back on sugar (NOT carbs their is a huge difference) and alcohol. There is a medication they want to put me on (they did when I was sixteen but I fought it, because it was newer in terms of treating PCOS) and while I am not the biggest fan of medications I know people who have had amazing success with it. I hope this helps and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me! Huge hugs ❤

    1. Thank you so much for the information! I literally was just discussing this with my friend, who does have PCOS, that maybe I should get checked out for it. I’ll definitely take your advice and be tested that way I know what dynamic I need to take to battle this instead of trial and error. Thanks a lot love. xx

  2. Ooh I’m so looking forward to your upcoming posts on how to balance your hormones. I don’t get acne but I do get everything else you listed (minus the last 4 bullet points) for like 10 days before I get my period!

  3. I’m looking forward to your future posts since I have many of the same symptoms. When lab tests came back “normal” I decided to play around with my diet. Cutting out dairy, animals products and soy really helped me – everyone is different, so maybe an elimination diet would help you weed out the foods that aren’t working for you. Good luck, and again, I can’t wait to follow along and see the results!

  4. Definitely looking forward to reading your posts! I have struggled with terrible acne all my life, even on my nose at like age eight lol. I thought it cleared up over the last couple of years but laziness on my part made me realize it hadn’t cleared up, it was just kept at bay by my skincare routine. It comes back with a vengeance if I skip washing my face in the morning. However, even if I consistently use a great face wash & acne medication, if I get stressed, I will have awful breakouts. It’s a struggle!
Anyway, I hope you’ll be able to find the root of your hormonal imbalance sooner rather than later!

      1. High-quality skincare has definitely made a difference and consistency is key for my skin. But yeah, even if I’m super consistent and using the great products, stress can throw out all my hard work. I’m looking forward to seeing what you find out for sure. 🙂
